Indian athletes made an impressive start to the Para Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, securing 11 medals on the opening day. Among the standout performances was a memorable one in the men’s F46 javelin throw, where India claimed both the gold and silver medals.
Rinku Hooda produced a winning throw of 65.11 metres to take the gold medal. His compatriot Ajit Singh finished just behind him with a throw of 65.02 metres, earning the silver medal.
Indonesia’s Saktyono completed the podium with a best effort of 55.30 metres, securing the bronze medal.
Rinku Improves Medal Colour
Hooda’s gold marks a significant improvement from his performance at the 2022 Para Asian Games. He had won the silver medal at the previous edition, but this time managed to move to the top of the podium.
Interestingly, Hooda had recorded a longer throw in 2022. His best effort of 67.08 metres was not enough for gold, as India’s Sundar Singh Gurjar finished ahead of him to claim the title.
Ajit Singh also improved on his previous result. He won bronze in the 2022 edition with a throw of 63.52 metres, but this time moved up to silver with his 65.02-metre effort.
The result once again highlighted India’s strength in para javelin, with Indian athletes occupying the top two positions in the F46 event.
With four gold medals among India’s 11 medals on the opening day, the Indian contingent has made a strong start to its Para Asian Games campaign.
