The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday held a strong protest outside the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer’s office against ‘Vote-Chori’ (vote theft), alongside Congress and other Opposition parties. At the call of AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj, MLAs Sanjeev Jha, Jarnail Singh and Kuldeep Kumar, along with a large number of AAP ‘karyakartas’ (workers) from across Delhi, gathered outside the office at Kashmiri Gate and raised slogans of “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod”.
Addressing the protest, Saurabh Bharadwaj revealed that votes were stolen in the Delhi election to defeat senior AAP leaders, including former CM Arvind Kejriwal, and that the same “dishonesty” was now taking place across the country. The party has demanded that deleted votes in Delhi be restored and that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resign.

AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj stated, “The 2025 Delhi election was manipulated and our leaders were defeated by deleting votes. Arvind Kejriwal’s New Delhi constituency had 1,45,000 votes, of which around 45,000 votes were deleted and he was defeated by 4,000 votes. The same manipulation is now being carried out across the country. In Delhi, more than half the votes have been deleted in the name of SIR. Is more than half of Delhi Bangladeshi or foreign citizens? Are they not the people of India? How is this possible in the national capital?
“Our demand is that the votes of those whose names were deleted must be restored and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar must resign. When our protest is peaceful, the police should not resort to violence,” he said while referring to the multiple layers of barricading used to stop AAP workers.
Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “Congress will have to broaden its heart. On October 2, it was not our call but the call of AISA, yet we were the first to reach there. A total of 700 people were detained, of whom 550 were from the Aam Aadmi Party. On October 3, our student wing was detained, and on October 4, I myself was detained twice. We were the first to reach Parliament Street Police Station and India Gate. The programme was scheduled for 2 pm today, and we reached here at 2:05 pm.”
Saurabh Bharadwaj said on X, addressing Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, “I feel that the Congress Delhi President is reacting a little too strongly. We were invited by the Left parties to the protest held at the CEO’s office on Wednesday. The Aam Aadmi Party and our student wing ASAP participated in the October 2 protest, the October 3 protest and the October 4 protests, in the morning at Parliament Street Police Station and in the evening at India Gate.”
He further stated, “I request Mallikarjun Kharge to intervene because Devender Yadav, out of ignorance, is weakening our fight against the BJP and the Chief Election Commissioner. We support all protests undertaken with good intentions, whether it was the Kisan Andolan, the protest by women wrestlers, the CJP protest, and now the protest over ‘Vote-Chori’.”
During the protest, Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha stated, “The government that was formed in Delhi in 2025 by deleting the votes of Aam Aadmi Party supporters is an illegal government and a government formed through ‘Vote-Chori’. Just as votes were stolen in Delhi, Gyanesh Kumar is now getting votes stolen across the country to facilitate the formation of BJP governments. The Election Commission is no longer the Election Commission of the country; instead, it has become a shield and cover for the BJP. If this continues, the country’s democracy will come to an end.”
Sanjeev Jha further stated, “Under the leadership of Gyanesh Kumar, the Election Commission cannot conduct free and fair elections. Until a traitor like Gyanesh Kumar is removed from office and sent to jail, this movement will continue. The struggle has been continuing since October 2 and 3, and a decisive call for this fight has been given for October 10.”
On the other hand, AAP MLA Jarnail Singh stated, “Until a case is registered against ‘Vote-Chor’ Gyanesh Kumar and his resignation is secured, this country will not stop. The BJP government in Delhi was formed through ‘Vote-Chori’. That is why it is defending Gyanesh Kumar. He has been exposed in the Supreme Court. This dictatorship will not continue now. Gyanesh Kumar will have to be dismissed and sent to jail.”
Meanwhile, AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar stated, “Gyanesh Kumar will have to resign at all costs. Gyanesh Kumar is Modi-Shah’s friend and a traitor. Gyanesh Kumar, who has stolen the people’s votes, will not escape now; he will have to go. Thousands of people have reached the Delhi Election Commission today, and we will not rest until we secure Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.”
