Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta launched a project to install one lakh smart LED street lights across Delhi under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, beginning at Andrews Ganj bus stop directly responding to concerns raised by female students during her recent interaction at Delhi University about dark spots and inadequate street lighting across the capital. Every smart LED light will be monitored in real time through a central command centre, with individual control capability and 99% functionality targeted. Faulty lights must be repaired within 48 hours, with agencies facing a penalty of ₹2,000 per light per day for delays.

Each light will carry a QR code for citizens to register complaints directly. Around 45,000 high-pressure sodium vapour lamps will be replaced with energy-efficient smart LEDs, with ₹100 crore in energy savings projected over five years. CM Rekha Gupta said the project will illuminate every dark corner of Delhi to ensure women’s safety and public convenience, maintaining 35 lux on main roads and 25 lux on service roads for seven years. PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh reaffirmed that smart technology, real-time monitoring and strict accountability will keep Delhi’s street lighting system fully operational for years to come.
